Will Trent

Will Trent Season 4: Everything We Know about release date, plot, cast and more.

ABC’s quirky police drama Will Trent has enjoyed a successful three-season run thus far, but will the show return for a fourth season soon? Created for the small screen by Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen (from the novels by Karin Slaughter), the series concerns a keen-eyed Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent (Ramón Rodríguez). Tackling some of the toughest cases in the city of Atlanta, Will’s journey for justice often brings him up against corruption within the law enforcement system. As if all that wasn’t enough, Will’s sometimes girlfriend (Erika Christensen’s Angela Polaski) works for the local police too.

Building momentum across its first two seasons, Will Trent has been one of the most consistent mid-season series in recent years, and that’s expected to continue. The shocking finale of season 2 left things in a complicated spot for season 3, and Will went into self-imposed exile following Angie’s arrest. Proving that the procedural series can grow, Will Trent added new series regular Gina Rodriguez for season 3, and each successive outing gets bigger and bigger. Even though more twists are on the horizon in the latest season, ABC has yet to renew season 4 of Will Trent.

Will ABC Order More Episodes?

With the third season still fresh, it isn’t surprising that ABC has yet to order Will Trent season 4. However, every indication seems to suggest that the show will be swiftly renewed for a fourth season soon. Though a shocking downturn in the series’ popularity is always possible, Will Trent has seen a consistent uptick in ratings with each season so far, and season 3 shouldn’t be any different. An upward trend in viewership is usually all it takes for an ongoing show to get a renewal order, and Will Trent’s high critical marks also help give it a boost.

While fall is the pinnacle of network TV, Will Trent has carved out a niche for itself as the crown jewel of ABC’s midseason schedule. This has allowed the show to gobble up massive ratings without as much competition, and to help ABC stay relevant in the “offseason”. Even if Will Trent season 3 is comparable in ratings to season 2, that will earn it a fourth season, especially with the show building momentum and adding to its ensemble. The addition of Gina Rodriguez in season 3 suggests that a long-term plan is in place.

Will Trent season 3 debuted on January 7, 2025.

Will Trent Season 4 Cast Details

The cast of Will Trent features a large and rotating ensemble, but the core characters have remained consistent through all three seasons thus far. Leading the show as the titular agent, Ramón Rodríguez will be back as Will Trent, and he won’t be the only one. Though her fate is uncertain following her season 2 arrest, it’s expected that Erika Christensen will reprise her role as Angela Polaski in one form or another. Likewise, Jake McLaughlin will be back as Angie’s work partner, Michael Ormewood.

Iantha Richardson plays Will’s working partner, Faith Mitchell, and they’ll likely stay together once he returns from his self-imposed exile. Overseeing the GBI, Sonja Sohn will be back as Will and Faith’s boss, Amanda Wagner. Gina Rodriguez joined the show as spunky Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba in season 3, and there’s no reason to think that she won’t return to reprise her role in season 4. Though the human cast is the focus of the series, animal actor Bluebell should also be back as Will’s chihuahua, Betty.
