While parsing through new dating trends, Mark Consuelos came across “yap trapping,” which he described as “when someone only talks about themselves and doesn’t make the effort to balance the give-and-take in a conversation.”

“‘Almost half of singles have been on a date or dated someone who never asked them any personal questions,’” he added.

Ripa was reminded of an ex-boyfriend of hers who had her yap-trapped, teasing that she “may have fallen asleep during our first date.”

“So I just was like, ‘Tell me about yourself,’ and for the next eleventeen hours, and maybe, I don’t know, it was, like, the longest date of my life, I was trapped, I was spellbound,” she recalled. “At a certain point I started laughing, because I was like, ‘He’s got to be kidding!’”

However, Consuelos picked up on Ripa’s use of the “boyfriend” label, piquing his curiosity.

“But this begs the question, you said ‘boyfriend,’” he pointed out.

After Ripa noted that “it was a first date,” Consuelos asked if he “became a boyfriend,” which Ripa confirmed.

“So, you decided to date this guy?” he teased, which Live EP Michael Gelman and Ripa agreed was a “red flag.”

Ripa admitted, “I wanted to see if eventually he would ask me a question, it never happened… but it’s like sometimes you engage in these — I call them ‘dangerous behaviors,’ dating someone that seems so uninterested in you that you’re like, ‘I want to see where this takes me,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s taking me nowhere.’”

Consuelos moved on to the concept of “sticking,” which means “looking past an initial ick and pursuing someone romantically despite any superficial oddities.”

Ripa joked, “I stuck!”

While Consuelos noted that “sticking” more so entailed “dating someone you wouldn’t date,” he brought up “grim keeping,” which involves “bonding with someone over your darker side or shared dislikes.”

Ripa claimed she is “such a grim keeper,” as Consuelos agreed that they have “bonded over stuff like that.” She asked the audience if anyone was dating, and found “one person” who was.

“Well, good luck out there,” she teased.
