‘Fire Country’ is trying to eliminate Gabriela through an unfortunate accident, will Bode be able to save her in time?
Fire Country Season 3, Episode 18, “Eyes and Ears Everywhere,” saw Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) try to move on from her brief relationship with Finn (Blake Lee) after he got a little too serious after their first kiss and then way too intense after she didn’t respond to his text messages right away. However, things changed swiftly when a fire broke out at Finn’s house, and he ended up injured.
He apologized to her on the way to the hospital, and it looked like a reconciliation might have been in the cards. But back at Finn’s house, Audrey (Leven Rambin) and Jake (Jordan Calloway) found a bunch of photos of Gabriela in Finn’s basement, proof he had been stalking her. They managed to let Vince know in time, and he managed to intervene before anything could happen between Finn and Gabriela. But alas, Finn escaped—with a weapon.
The episode ends with Manny (Kevin Alejandro) asking Gabriela where her gun is, as he can’t protect her all the time. The show’s two-hour Season 3 finale, titled “A Change In the Wind” and “I’d Do it Again,” airs next week, and the setup is clear for Finn to be a big plot point in the finale. Ironically, it’s not what’s being teased in the synopsis or the promo, which makes it even more likely Gabriela is in actual danger.
Shows like Fire Country sure love a misdirect. The trailer shows Bode (Max Thieriot) saying, “My whole family is in there,” presumably about his parents, and trying to get back into a fire. If we’re seeing Bode concerned about Sharon (Diane Farr) and Vince (Billy Burke), then chances are they’re going to be just fine. But Bode has also shown he will go out on a limb and often make bad decisions for Gabriela. But the show has kept them apart for the latter half of the season, as Bode starts a relationship with Audrey (Leven Rambin) and Gabriela has her brief fling with Finn.
However, if Gabriela is truly in danger, Bode won’t hesitate. The question is, will he get there in time? Can he truly save Gabriela? Or has Fire Country decided the show doesn’t need her anymore, and they’re okay with Bode and Audrey as the show’s main couple, and they can write her off? Sure, losing her would be a big blow to Manny and even Bode, but they could both presumably recover. While Gabriela is around, her storyline with Bode will always feel like a love triangle, even if Bode is truly committed to Audrey.
It’s hard to tell if that’s the decision, but it’s impossible to discount the possibility. However, if we had to bet, we’d say it’s more likely this is just the beginning of Bode and Gabriela’s way back to each other. Audrey is a good character, but she has always had the vibe of a temporary plot device in the way of the main ship. And if there’s one tried and true way to get characters back to each other in procedurals, it’s putting them in danger. Finn comes after Gabriela, Bode helps save the day—or maybe doesn’t, but it’s enough to help him realize he cares too much about Gabriela to be stringing Audrey along? It would be quite a way to end Season 3, just saying.
