Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Launch Audio Drama Inspired by Daytime Soaps
Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa are bringing their soap pasts to a new venture. The Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts, who met as stars on ABC’s All My Children, are headlining a new audio drama for Audible called Summer Breeze, inspired by 1990s daytime soaps.
Per the official Audible page, Summer Breeze centers on a young screenwriter whose script is taken from her by a Hollywood producer, Gordon Ready (Consuelos). So she works with a soap alum named Carolyn Harris, played by Ripa, who has her own secrets. They aim to get justice via the soap opera Summer Breeze. As they work together, romance and revelations abound.
According to People, the vocal cast on the ten-part Audible Original will also include the couple’s son Michael. The screenwriter is voiced by Sarah Steele. Other cast members include Talia Balsam, Ally Sheedy, Zack Gilford, Adriane Lenox, and Grey Henson.
Ripa and Consuelos told People in a joint statement:
It’s a fresh take on the genre we love. Our relationship started on All My Children, so revisiting the world of soap operas through this new medium was a full-circle experience.
The series was written and EP-ed by Aaron Tracy, who’s worked on the likes of Law & Order: SVU; co-producing are Audible, Fresh Produce Media, and Consuelos and Ripa’s Milojo Productions.
