Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos gush over ‘newborn baby’ as they share emotional family update

Live with Kelly and Mark stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos shared an emotional update about their family member. The couple married in 1996 and share three grown-up children together

TV stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are not quite over the fact that their youngest son, Joaquin, is set to graduate from college as they shared an emotional message to mark the milestone.

Ripa, 54, and Consuelos, also 54, have always been open with fans about their family life. Married since 1996 after meeting on All My Children, they share three children, Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 22, who is now preparing to leave Ann Arbor after four years studying at the University of Michigan.

The couple who host Live with Kelly and Mark both shared that they are still in disbelief about the major milestone their family is about to reach. Ripa jokingly shared that she and Consuelos have been begging Joaquin to pursue graduate school, so they can keep visiting the city.

“Our newborn baby is graduating in two weeks!” exclaimed Kelly, with Mark adding: “We’re not ready yet to leave Ann Arbor… we keep begging him to go to grad school.”

Joaquin has been heavily involved in both theater and wrestling during his time at the university. In fact, his parents recently attended his performance in the play A Few Good Men and participated in his senior night for the wrestling team.

“We spent the weekend with him. We got to spend time with him and his siblings,” the presenter and mum-of-three shared. “He was in a production of A Few Good Men at the University of Michigan this weekend which was extraordinary.”

“Extraordinary. And it was senior night for the wrestling team. We had a tale of two completely different experiences,” Ripa continued. “We were in the theater and then I did a quick change in the car out of my theater clothes into my wrestling mom clothes.”

Like her son, Kelly Ripa has a background in theater, having starred in several local productions before being discovered during her senior year in The Ugly Duckling. Initially, she attended Camden County College with plans to study psychology, but she soon dropped out and moved to New York City to chase her dreams of becoming an actress.

She graduated from Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees Township, New Jersey, where she was a cheerleader. It was during these high school years that her drama teacher, Jim Boeckle, encouraged her to pursue acting, a path she credits much of her career success to.

Despite her early start in acting, Kelly shared that she had always dreamed of attending a four-year college and earning a degree, though she wasn’t sure which subject to study. “Writing or English?” Mark joked, to which Kelly responded with a laugh, “I should go into broadcast, an easy A, or communications.”

As for her husband, he attended Bloomingdale Senior High School in Valrico, Florida, before heading to the University of Notre Dame. He later transferred to the University of South Florida, where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in marketing.
