The dust is only just beginning to settle on a pulsating Season 3 finale for Ramon Rodriguez’s titular Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) detective, Will Trent. Packed full of twists and turns and ending on one of the show’s best cliffhangers to date, many are still collecting their thoughts and regaining their breath. Following several major reveals, everyone Will loves being placed in grave danger, and the final moments of the season, and more left the show balancing on a knife-edge.
Including two chaotic shootouts, revealing that Sheriff Caleb Broussard, portrayed by Severance star Yul Vazquez, is actually his father, and both Amanda (Sonja Sohn) and Ormewood’s (Jake McLaughlin) lives left hanging in the balance as the credits rolled, the Will Trent Season 3 finale is the best of the series so far, and couldn’t have done a better job at setting the stage for Season 4. It is surprising, then, to learn that, according to audiences, Season 3 is the worst outing for Rodriguez’s clever-minded detective so far. According to review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, fans have scored Season 3 a strong, albeit slightly underwhelming, 74%. This is sadly the worst of all three seasons, with Season 1 earning 82%, and Season 2 receiving the best of the bunch with 85%.
Change Is Coming for ‘Will Trent’s Ensemble in Season 4
With Season 3 leaving plenty of unanswered questions for Season 4 to tackle, the countdown is already on for the show’s return, even if it likely remains months away. With anticipation for the fourth season so high after such a strong third season finale, the rumor mill is already turning as theories about the safety of Amanda and Ormewood and the relationship between Will and his father gather momentum. In an interview with Collider’s Christina Radish, showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen gave an early indication about what might be on the cards for Season 4, hinting at momentous change coming for the show’s central characters. Thomsen said:
“One thing that is a common thread with all of them, leaving aside any catastrophic health outcome, is that it’s all about change. What’s exciting for us is that, in between the other two seasons, there was some change, but now, every character on the show is going through a little bit of a seismic change. And it’s a change that keeps them together in a way that we can continue making the show. They’re all the same people who are going to be a part of our law enforcement, but they’re going to have to find ways through some pretty big life changes. That’s exciting because that’s what life is.”
