Top Vancouver sushi spots get shoutout on “Live with Kelly and Mark”
Do you know what’s even more exciting than a star sighting in a local restaurant? A local restaurant shoutout from an A-lister, that’s what.
On a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham joined hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos for a catchup and the love for our local food scene — and a few specific restaurants — was real.
Graham, who was on set to promote her new seasonal film, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, shared some of her intel on Canadian culinary hotspots during the November 8 show.
The Honolulu-born actress recently returned from working in Toronto and explained how she enjoyed dining around during her limited off time there.
“A fun way to get to know a city is going to its well-known restaurants. There’s some amazing food in Toronto.”
When asked where Ripa and Consuelos should go the next time they’re in the city, Graham suggested Canadian culinary star and The Bear actor Matty Matheson’s Prime Seafood Palace.
Graham described the 944 Queen St W Toronto spot as “so delicious” before saying the sushi was also top-notch in the city.
Ripa is no stranger to loving Canadian sushi (not to mention YVR International Airport) as the actress and talk show host has gushed over Vancouver’s Miku previously on the show.
The popular waterfront restaurant came up again, as Graham mentioned she knew Ripa had worked in Vancouver and loved the signature Aburi Oshi Sushi from both Miku and its sister restaurant, Minami.
“They have a sister restaurant now in Toronto,” says Graham, “I ate it every other day. I don’t know why we don’t have that kind of sushi here.”
When Consuelos chimed in, saying, “I’m sure we do, we just don’t know where it is,” Graham quickly responded, “I have looked, Mark, I have looked.”
“It’s my Shark Tank project I’m going to bring to America,” Graham added jokingly.
“Once you have sushi that way, you can’t seem to have it any other way,” added Ripa in agreeance.
Miku is one establishment that’s certainly earned the A-lister seal of approval over the years. The Vancouver restaurant even hosted Beyonce and Jay-Z years ago after their On The Run 2 tour stop at BC Place the night prior.
