Both Angie and Will have new relationships, is this the best ending for this relationship?
Will Trent‘s central love story is seemingly doomed in season 3, and it’s partly because of one new character. ABC’s crime drama is based on Karin Slaughter’s book series of the same name, following the best special agent at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) — Will Trent. Although Will’s skills have served him well regarding his work, his personal life is a mess. Angie Polaski, a (former) detective, grew up with Will in the foster care system, and the two have had an on-and-off relationship ever since. However, their romance came to an end during the Will Trent season 2 finale.
New episodes of Will Trent air on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC. Season 3 is expected to have 18 episodes, the highest in the show’s history.
Will arrested Angie at the end of Will Trent season 2 for covering up Lenny’s murder. Doing so destroyed Will, resulting in him running away to Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. Back in Atlanta, a lenient judge let Angie go free. Afterward, she started working as security in a gated community while actively trying to get her APD job back. Six months after leaving, Will returned to his home to work on a new case, and after the events of the two-part Will Trent season 3 premiere, he decided to stay. As of episode 2, Will and Angie have yet to reunite.
Angie Is Confirmed To Have A New Love Interest, But His Introduction Is Delayed
Scott Foley Enters The Show In Episode 8
Prior to the Will Trent season 3 premiere, it was announced that Scott Foley, most known for starring in Scream 3 and Scandal, would join the cast in a recurring role. Foley will play Dr. Seth McDale. The new Will Trent season 3 character is described as confident, down-to-earth, the head of emergency medicine at a hospital, and Angie’s love interest. However, Seth’s introduction won’t come until later in the season.
While speaking with TVLine, showrunners Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomson teased Seth’s arrival in Angie’s life. While previewing Angie’s connection with Seth, they also revealed when Foley would make his debut in Will Trent season 3. Heldens said:
“Episode 8, so we’ve got a little bit of a wait. He’s a doctor, and he works in the emergency room of the hospital that’s nearest to the police station. We wanted him to be in the ecosystem, you know? We go to the hospital a lot on our show, so it made sense. He is somebody who might be able to chime in on a case. He was designed as someone who has some sobriety under his belt and would be this really mature guy who is not going to take any of Angie’s crap. I’ve worked with Scott Foley before [on Fox’s The Big Leap]. I love him, and he just comes in, kind of drops out of the sky in episode 8, and then they go on a little adventure together.”
Will Trent Delaying Angie’s New Romance Means Her Possible Reconciliation With Will Is Also Pushed Back
Will Also Has A New Love Interest
The audience has to wait until Will Trent season 3, episode 8 to meet Foley’s character, and that’s bad news for those hoping to see Will and Angie reconcile their romance. Season 3 has 18 episodes in total. So, if Angie is only just meeting her new love interest in the back half of the season, there is less time for her to possibly reunite with Will. Foley is also a big name to grab, meaning it’s unlikely that the actor will only stick around for a couple of episodes.
Thanks to the crime drama delaying Angie’s new romance, the odds of her and Will getting back together in Will Trent season 3 are slim. Angie’s story in the second half of season 3 should significantly feature her blossoming relationship with Seth. Meanwhile, Will has a new love interest of his own — Gina Rodriguez’s Marion Alba, who was introduced during the Will Trent season 3 premiere. Both characters will be focused on their romances with other people. As a result, Will and Angie’s possible reunion won’t happen anytime soon, but maybe that’s for the best.
Should Angie & Will Still Get Back Together?
Their Relationship Might Be Broken Beyond Repair
Will and Angie’s tumultuous, on-and-off relationship isn’t built to last in Will Trent season 3. After everything they have been through, the two characters know one another better than anyone else in the world. However, that doesn’t mean they should be together. Will and Angie’s romance has been rather toxic over the years, and despite the deep love they carry for each other, it’s not enough to make up for their past mistakes or fix their trauma.
Marion and Seth are Will and Angie’s opportunities to find love in different places.
Will arresting Angie in the Will Trent season 2 finale might have been the last nail in their coffin. Perhaps they can never go back and try to have a happy life together, and they both deserve a chance to move on. Marion and Seth are Will and Angie’s opportunities to find love in different places. Only time will tell if the new relationships can go the distance, but viewers still shouldn’t bank on Will and Angie getting back together in Will Trent season 3.
