Official announcement: Chef Cloyce Martin was forced to leave Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 for having fun with guests instead of doing his duties.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht recently returned to Bravo, and at least one cast member is already falling down on the job. In the months leading up to the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 premiere, speculation kept rising over whether this Below Deck spin-off would ever see the light of day again, mainly due to Gary King’s misconduct accusations. Now that the show is back, Gary isn’t the only cast member providing lots of drama for viewers. Chef Cloyce Martin has gotten mixed reviews for his skills and ability to handle the stresses that come along with the job.
A Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast member comes under fire for having fun with the guests instead of doing his job–and Captain Glenn Shephard isn’t happy.
Bravo recently shared a preview clip from the next episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, which kicks off the second day of the charter by showing Chef Cloyce having fun in the water with the guests. Captain Glenn Shephard orders Gary to tell Cloyce to come back to the boat so he can get started on preparing lunch for the guests, which is supposed to be served in 30 minutes. “If you are a bit young for the role you’re fulfilling, you should err on the side of professionalism,” Glenn explains in a confessional.
When Cloyce finally makes it back, Glenn questions whether he can get lunch ready in time. Cloyce confidently says he’ll only need 20 minutes. During his own confessional, the chef said that he’s worked with captains in the past who were laid-back and didn’t mind him having a bit of fun. Later on in the preview clip, the guests sit down at the table, ready to eat, but Cloyce is still working away in the galley, not ready. The guests have been waiting for over 15 minutes, and Cloyce finally admits he underestimated how much time he would need.
What Chef Cloyce Martin’s Lack Of Professionalism Means For His Job
Parsifal III Has High Expecations Of The Crew
Over the summer, another chef from the franchise faced accusations that he wasn’t the right fit for the job. During Below Deck Med season 9, Chef Johnathan Shillingford was accused of faking his poor skills in the galley. Early on in the season, it became clear that Johnathan had a difficult time following the preference sheets. At one point, he even served a dish to a guest who could have had a major medical emergency if she had eaten the food.
With these red flags still on the minds of fans, it feels like déjà vu that on Sailing Yacht, there’s yet another chef who’s not living up to the high expectations the crew should be reaching. Colin may have served under past captains with lax rules, but on Parsifal III, there’s an expectation of excellent service. There have been many guests in the past who have waited a long time for meals to be served. While this is nothing new, it doesn’t seem like the chefs in the Below Deck franchise have any intention of improving their time management skills.
Our Take On Chef Cloyce Martin Abandoning The Galley
Chef Cloyce Could Be The First Cast Member Fired
These charter guests paid a lot of money for the trip; they shouldn’t be waiting around a long time when the crew is very aware of when meals should be served. I’m sure the guests had fun with Cloyce in the water, but the chef should have known better since it’s, ultimately, his responsibility. Almost every season of Below Deck features at least one firing. If Sailing Yacht season 5 follows that pattern, then Chef Cloyce could be the first one on the chopping block. Cloyce has a reality TV past, which could fuel accusations that he’s a producer plant.
