Robert De Niro Accused Kelly Ripa Of Being “Out Of Touch” On ‘Live’ When She Admits She Doesn’t Know ‘Ms. Rachel’

Like many parents of youngsters, Robert De Niro has been schooled on Ms. Rachel — and got the chance to enlighten Kelly Ripa on the popular children’s program on today’s Live with Kelly and Mark.

The Zero Day star joined Ripa and Mark Consuelos, where they asked him about his experience at this weekend’s Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special and what it was like to host the NBC sketch comedy show three times. Of course, Consuelos asked if he attended the famous after party at SNL‘s big birthday bash.

“I did. I’m a little tired,” he quipped with a chuckle. “I don’t stay up that late ever.”

Ripa chimed in, “Yeah, exactly. I mean, don’t you have a baby?”

As a sweet picture of the 81-year-old actor and his daughter Gia — who turns two in April — appeared on screen, Ripa asked what she’s “into.”

De Niro said, “So I watch Ms. Rachel, and The Wiggles. That takes my mind off everything else.”

Consuelos added, “So you’re being introduced to all these new shows, Bob.”

De Niro conceded, “I know, I know. Who would’ve thought?”

“I don’t know what Ms. Rachel is,” Ripa admitted, noting that her and Consuelos’ three children are all “grown.”

De Niro teased, “Well, you’re out of touch.”

Ripa said, “You’re right. You’re right, I’m totally out of touch. What’s Ms. Rachel? Should I be watching it?”

The Casino star told Ripa to look her up,” explaining that “she’s become very successful.”

“A person I work with, his kid, he said, ‘Watch Ms. Rachel.’ We watch Ms. Rachel. It’s like, when she’s upset or anything,” he shared. “We were walking down the street, and there was a lady sitting outside in the warm weather, and she had her iPhone up, and the baby was in the chair over here. And lo and behold, what was she watching? Ms. Rachel. Just kept the child quiet and engrossed.”

Ripa’s curiosity was piqued, as she asked what Ms. Rachel does. “Does she have puppets?” she asked. “Is it a cooking show?”

De Niro summed up the children’s show as “the whole deal,” explaining, “You know, A-B-C-D, all of the rhymes, nursery rhymes, everything, all that sweet stuff. It’s nice.”
