Will Trent Is Setting Marion Up As Will’s Next Love Interest
After two seasons, the Will Trent main cast list changes for the first time with the addition of Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba. The ABC police procedural TV series, created by Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen, and Karin Slaughter, returns with season 3 in early 2025, following a seven-month hiatus. To make up for lost time (and speed up the story), the Will Trent season 3 premiere picks up six months after Will arrested Angie for lying about Lenny’s murder case. It’s safe to say he’s not handling his new normal very well.
New episodes of Will Trent season 3 air on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC. Season 3 consists of 18 episodes.
Will immediately runs away after arresting Angie at the end of Will Trent season 2. The season 3 premiere reveals he has escaped to Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. But, once a cop is murdered and the main suspect demands to speak with Will, the GBI agent finally returns to Atlanta. After a series of events involving Will following the case’s evidence, Ramón Rodríguez’s character bumps into Marion at a Mexican restaurant where every dish is named after an Atlanta music artist.
Will Trent Season 3 Introduces Gina Rodriguez’s Marion Alba
Marion Is The ADA
Will’s replacement at the GBI, Agent Moss, discovers that their victim, Chester Flynn, has a meeting scheduled with an unknown person at the aforementioned Mexican restaurant in Will Trent season 3, episode 1. So, Will goes there, and that is where he finds Gina Rodriguez’s Marion Alba. The victim was supposed to meet up with Marion, the Fulton County Assistant District Attorney, but she comes face-to-face with Will instead.
Will and Albion don’t exactly get off to a good start as they’re both apprehensive of one another. However, it soon becomes clear that they can help one another. The ADA explains that she is working on a RICO case against the Grove Park Boys (a gang), which is why Chester scheduled the meeting with Albion.
Albion will help the protagonist solve Chester’s murder in the second part of the Will Trent season 3 premiere.
Chester, who they suspect was a dirty cop, was going to be a whistleblower. Will and Albion then theorize that a cop killed Chester to keep him quiet, and she goes with Will to the GBI to continue working on the case. So, Albion will help the protagonist solve Chester’s murder in the second part of the Will Trent season 3 premiere.
Why Marion Alba Could Be A Better Replacement For Angie In Will Trent Season 3
Will Trent Is Setting Marion Up As Will’s Next Love Interest
Albion isn’t going away anytime soon (Gina Rodriguez is a series regular in the cast, after all). So, she and Will should have plenty of time to develop their newfound partnership, and that’s when sparks will begin to fly between Will and Albion in Will Trent season 3. Albion will seemingly worm her way into Will’s heart, which is quite broken after his breakup with Angie. However, Albion is just what Will needs, as she could be better suited for him than Angie.
Marion doesn’t come with any baggage or history concerning her relationship with Will, unlike Angie. The two just met and will slowly but surely get to know one another. Will and Marion also already have chemistry after only one episode, and they evidently have similar morals and beliefs — they bond over depending on “facts and truth” numerous times throughout the Will Trent season 3 premiere. When speaking with TVLine, Ramón Rodríguez discussed this commonality that Will and Marion share. The actor said:
“I think the one connecting point that we realized, at least in that first episode, is when he says something to her… I think it’s something, like, ‘Doesn’t anybody care about truth and facts anymore?’ and she says it later on when they’re at the office. There’s a core value that they might share, as to why they do what they do, and I think that really resonates for Will. And so, at first, it is strictly a professional thing, and I think slowly we end up seeing that it’s more than that.”
